Delivered in 2017 and 2018 respectively, MSC Seaside and Seaview joined the MSC Cruises fleet as part of efforts to reinforce the brand’s family appeal. It was with this objective in mind that YSA Design developed a family zone which occupies the entire aft section on Deck 18 on each sister ship.
The area caters not only for families in general, but for specific age bands from 0 to 17 years. It features everything from a nursery to arcade games. In equipping the zones for the three youngest age bands, YSA collaborated with renowned toy manufacturers: Chicco® on ‘Baby Club’ and Lego® on the ‘Mini’ and ‘Juniors’ clubs. For the teenage groups, where the styling for interiors is more mature, activities focus on socialising and competition.
Despite having distinct facilities and designs, each zone flows seamlessly into the next, making the space as a whole flexible enough to allow different groups to mix. Immediately forward of the kids’ area is the ‘Forest AquaVenture Park’, one of the largest water attractions at sea. Here, tree houses and elevated bridges – combined with bold but earthy colouring – create a jungle feel, inspiring the sense of adventure suggested in the name.
Aside from the child-orientated spaces, YSA also worked on several restaurants on board Seaside and Seaview, including the fishing-themed ‘Ocean Cay’ and ‘Asian Market Kitchen’.
